Hatha Yoga: a Path to Self-Discovery

by
Jamar

Yoga by definition means “union”, the bringing together of the mind, body & spirit in such a way as to foster an experience of union.

Yoga is not a religion nor is it any longer a far off mysterious ritual of the East. Yoga is a science with quite predictable results. These results range from greater health and flexibility, to increased energy, a sense of deep inner calm, to a profound shift in how we relate to ourselves, others and spirit.

Hatha yoga, which is the most commonly known yoga in the West uses postures “asanas” and breathing exercises “pranayama” as a tool for transcendence. This is the transcendence of the ego-mind and/or restless spirit to a state of being fully awake or “enlightened”. The entire process of Yoga was originally designed as a path of spiritual unfoldment beginning with Hatha Yoga as a way of preparing the body so that one could sit in meditation.

The most wonderful part of Hatha Yoga is the ability to receive instant feedback. With an ever changing working surface, “The Body”, one is able to watch the unfolding take place. This may show up as greater flexibility, or the release of energy or life-force “prana”, as well as the intuition of what the body desires next in the form of movement to facilitate either healing or growth.

I have not been able to duplicate in any other practice the level of connectedness with self I have experienced as a result of Yoga There is so much the body has to teach, yet most of us have never taken the time to learn how to listen.

So if you are new to Yoga or a returning veteran my invitation is to come out to a class with an open mind and heart and share in the energy of love and exploration as we embark on our journey to our higher Self .
